Jane's Information Group Speeds Route to the Web
Atomik is selected by Jane's for automated QuarkXPress-to-XML conversion, moving Jane's further through its rapid information evolution.
Jane's Information Group - the world's leading electronic information provider for government, corporate risk and security information - has selected Atomik software - by Easypress Technologies - to revolutionise the conversion of QuarkXPress print content for use online. The new process will automate the extraction of XML from QuarkXPress using Atomik and then convert this into HTML for publishing online.
Significant time savings "Our customers increasingly require that Jane's information is disseminated fast and accurately across the globe" said Chief Technology Officer, Rahul Belani of Jane's Information Group. "For this reason, any improved efficiencies we can achieve in the process of moving print content to the Web are critical. Atomik will bring us significant time savings and therefore directly increase how quickly customers can access our new content." Jane's' previous process for moving this valuable content online involved manual processes such as copying and pasting.
Implementing Atomik is yet another step in the rapid evolution of Jane's from a standard electronic information provider into a provider of information in an advanced form that is adaptable, intuitive and of maximum usefulness to customers. Most significantly, many major organisations in the media, military, security and transport sectors now enjoy a direct and highly flexible flow of Jane's data direct into their own networks and intranets.
"With all our publications - but especially our regular titles - we have to turn around both the print and web editions in as short a time as possible. As such, we couldn't afford to implement a solution that would require significant print workflow changes and the associated training requirements." continued Belani. "Atomik is so easy to use - all our QuarkXPress operators have to do is deposit their documents in a specified folder and Atomik takes care of the rest. This means that there is almost no impact on the print workflow."
Jane's will use Atomik for the influential Jane's Defence Weekly magazine, converting the extracted XML automatically into HTML for publishing online. This will then be extended to a range of other regularly updated products in order to gain further efficiencies.
Jane's selected Atomik - which is developed by Easypress Technologies - after an extensive evaluation of the available solutions on the market today. Atomik was selected due to its speed, ease of use and ability to work with a variety of publication layouts.
Jane's is one of a number of prominent information providers to have recently selected Atomik for automated QuarkXPress to XML conversion. "Jane's is a highly respected information provider that we are delighted to welcome as an Atomik customer." said Mike Evans, Easypress Technologies Managing Director. "Atomik is being heavily adopted in this particular sector as more and more information providers realise that cross-media publishing can be viable and profitable if costs are minimised."
