Easypress announces that it has signed an agreement with Canada’s leading specialist book publisher ECW Press Inc to convert its books to the IDPF’s EPUB standards for eBook production using its web-based EasyEPUB Service based on its Atomik technology
London – October 7th 2009 – Easypress Technologies, today is announcing an agreement with ECW Press to use its web-based EasyEPUB Service to convert Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress production books to EPUB eBooks. The EPUB format is based on the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) EPUB XML standards for eBook. The aim of the project will be for ECW Press to process its books through an eBook production process to an industry standard EPUB format as part of its extended book production processes.
EasyEPUB is available as a web-based eBook service which ECW Press will incorporate into its book production process as part of its own production services. EasyEPUB is a break-through service for publishing eBooks and for the first time a book publishing company will be able to produce and view electronic books in a standard EPUB format as part of their own production services. Using the EPUB standard represents a major step forward for ECW Press in quickly producing eBooks EPUB files from the book lay-outs hey have for the Sony Book Reader, the Stanza reader for the iPhone and others. The introduction of the EasyEPUB Service to directly convert Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress book formats to the eBook EPUB standard represents a major step forward in support for digital eBooks in the book publishing market and opens a new chapter for Easypress Technologies’ who’s core Atomik XML technology has since 2000 lead the way in the repurposing of Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress content into XML based online and publishing formats. EasyEPUB is a web-based service which allows book publishers to integrate eBook production processes based on EPUB into their own book production services without actually having to buy the software or lose control of the process by having to out-source the eBook production to a 3rd Party. The web-hosted EasyEPUB Service allows book publishers to upload their Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress books into the EasyEPUB application via a standard web browser; the service then maps the content in the Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress file to the EPUB standard using a intelligent Atomik matching engine developed by Easypress. This conversion process from an Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress format to EPUB can take less than 60 seconds and the publisher is in total control of the process. “We are delighted that ECW Press has selected the Easypress and its new EasyEPUB Service” says James Macfarlane the CEO of Easypress Technologies, “the rapid growth in eBook sales in the book publishing market is taking everyone by surprise and we believe that ECW Press will be very well positioned in adopting the EPUB eBook format to grow their business in this new market for electronic books emerges”. Macfarlane went on to say “By using EasyEPUB we believe that book publishers can dramatically speed up their eBook production process, reduce their costs and provide high quality eBook products – whether that be one or 1,000 books per day”. “ECW Press is committed to an eBook strategy for its book titles in a global market for quality cutting-edge books; today our company has built a heady mix of commercial and literary works that strive for a uniform standard of excellence: the best writing; the most exciting, controversial, and insightful takes on the hottest subject matter; groundbreaking design and high production values” says David Caron, Co-Publisher at ECW Press, “our goal is to support every ECW Press title with the kind of innovative marketing and promotion that give our books and authors the recognition they deserve”.
