What is Atomik Dynamic Publisher?
ADP is system which allows users of QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign to allow their clients or document editors to access QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign files remotely through a web browser.

What does ADP add to business users?
If your business produces content for clients to review before publication or you receive a lot of content to be reviewed then ADP can help reduce costs and time. Normally when a QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign user/designer wants to allow their client to review or edit some content, they will have to send it as a PDF file either electronically or via a courier and/or post. This is time consuming and expensive. This file is then marked up manually and sent back to the originator. This means a large number of errors are likely, it takes considerable time and there will be many repetitions. Version control becomes almost impossible.

How does ADP help?
ADP allows the client or editor to view the file, edit and suggest changes to the file remotely through a web browser anywhere in the world. Any changes are all logged, version controlled and sent back dynamically to the originator.

Does this mean the client has to have QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign skills?
No, the client will be given permissions to change and edit certain parts of the documents (text and images). It will be as simple as changing a word document. The permissions are given at the discretion of the originator. The control of the design of the document remains with the originator.

What happens if the Design Originator uses both Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress?
The system will run simultaneously for both InDesign and Quark users.

What happens if the clients make a lot of changes?
If the client writes a lot of new text which does not fit into a particular box / part of the document and disrupts the original design of the document this will become 'overmatter', and this will be identified to the client and also to the originator by the system.

Can the client make suggestions to change the document?
Yes, there is a facility for the client to make notes, which will be sent as an e-mail notification to the originator and is also available as a printable text file. There is also a facility for making a 'Version Note' that will be stored with that version of the file.

Can the client see different versions?
Yes, there is a full record of versions and Version Notes and what is more the client can dynamically compare one version with another on the screen. This is called 'Blacklining'

Can the system provide PDF’s?
The system uses both standard PDF engines in QuarkXPress and Adobe Indesign and is able to produce both high resolution and low resolution PDF documents either at the touch of a button or automatically at preconfigured workflow stages.

Can the originator manage multiple clients from the ADP system?
Yes, the ADP system allows multiple clients and multiple projects per client. All clients have their own discrete and secure areas.

Can the originator see what has been done to what and by whom?
There is a full audit trail available of exactly what has been done to the documents, at what time and by whom. The system will even record that a document has just been opened (but not edited).

Do I still need to Pre-Flight my PDF files?
There is a full audit trail available of exactly what has been done to the documents, at what time and by whom. The system will even record that a document has just been opened (but not edited).

What is the architecture of the system?
The system uses the QuarkXPress Server 7 and/or Adobe InDesign Server technologies along with the Alfresco Content management system.

My documents contain highly sensitive information - how secure is the system?
The system is extremely secure. Security between the client web-browser and the ADP server is provided by the HTTPS protocol – the same as used by on-line banks. Each client is also given a unique username and password which must be typed accurately when logging in to the system. Responsibility for user management – configuration and privileges are allocated and handled by the originator of the files/system owner.
