Can Atomik Xport put my QuarkXPress content on the Web?
Atomik Xport will extract your QuarkXPress content as XML. Once the content is in XML you have various ways to get your content onto the Internet. This might mean putting it into a database, converting it to HTML. Internet Explorer can read XML directly.
Can Atomik Xport handle tabular data?
Yes. Atomik Xport's advanced engine is able to pinpoint the location of tabular data in QuarkXPress or InDesign documents and subsequently extract the tabular data accurately as XML.
What about images?
Atomik Xport enables you to keep your images associated with the correct content from QuarkXPress or InDesign by storing the image file name and image path. This way you can use the original images with your XML content or even change the paths to point to different image files such as low-resolution images for the Web. Alternative, Xport gan create low resolution, web friendly graphics automatically.
What versions of QuarkXPress does Atomik work with?
Atomik is compatible with QuarkXPress version 4.03 or higher.
Does it work for Windows and Mac?
Yes, Atomik will work with all PC and Mac platforms
How long does the process take?
Once you have done the initial set up, the actual extraction of the content into XML is extremely fast. For example a typical 20 page document takes a just a few seconds.
Can it handle display advertising?
Atomik can extract both text and images from QuarkXPress or InDesign documents. This means that if you have a display advert which is a single image file, that image name and path will be extracted from the document. However Atomik will not break an individual image down into text and image components.
Can I add meta-data using Atomik?
Yes. Atomik comes with two applications, the AtomikXT and Atomik Enhancer. The Enhancer application enables you to manipulate and enhance the extracted XML file including the addition of meta-data to it.
How does Atomik handle special fonts sets such as Wingdings?
Atomik exports the characters from the QuarkXPress or InDesign document but does not extract font information. This means that any characters from special font sets such as Wingdings or Zapfdingbats with simply be exported as a standard character that relates to their position in the character map.
Does Atomik work with all languages?
Atomik works with most 1-byte forward reading languages such. However it cannot currently export content from QuarkXPress or InDesign for 2-byte languages such as Japanese or reverse reading languages such as Hebrew.
Does it integrate with existing systems?
XML is a widely adopted industry standard. This means that almost all of the major systems in use today fully support XML as a data transfer format. This includes the major databases, content management systems and Web application servers.
What if we redesign our publication?
No problem, all you have to do is reconfigure the rule set for your document and you can continue to use Atomik.
What if the structure of my QuarkXPress or InDesign documents changes?
This is really to do with your DTD design. As long as you design your DTD sufficiently, it should not need to be changed every time your document structure changes. However if you do have to change your DTD structure, you will then need to alter the Atomik set up accordingly.
Can you use any DTD?
Yes, as long as your DTD conforms to the XML standards defined by the WC3, Atomik will be able to use it.
Does Atomik work with other schema languages?
Atomik currently only supports DTDs as they are the most commonly-used and stable schemas.
