Simon Westover, Londoner and award-winning architect, dreams of creating the next iconic landmark. With a passion for designing bridges, he will do almost whatever it takes to succeed within the industry.  But it is his unwavering drive and ambition that is affecting his life outside the office – his wife wants a divorce.

With the added pressures of the 2008 financial crash his wife initiates the separation and Simon is faced with a series of snowballing of crises that threaten to destabilise him altogether. His family, friends and colleagues become caught up in his turmoil as he risks losing everything he cares about.

On almost every page we are grounded in the details of what families have to do just to survive. The Golden Gate is a novel for our times in more ways than one! — Ann Oakley, Professor of Sociology and novelist.
